Political Trust, Political Attitudes and Democratic Erosion in Southern Europe

Abstract

This panel explores trust, attitudes towards democracy and democratic erosion in Southern Europe. The papers presented in this panel draw on evidence not only from the wider set of Southern European member states, but also zoom into specific country cases (Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece). The panel discusses the impact of the changing public attitudes to democratic governance reflecting on moments of crises, nationalism, protest and civic engagement.
