Abstract

This seminar by Dr Maísa Edwards explores the use of games and interactive activities as approaches to active learning in History, War Studies and International Relations. It focuses on Be A Revolutionary!, a strategy-based learning tool she designed to engage students with the ethical, political, and strategic dilemmas of authoritarianism and revolutionary change. Drawing on the Haitian, French, and American Revolutions, the activity situates students within fictional autocratic regimes, requiring them to navigate questions of power, ideology, resistance, and political action. The seminar also offers a helpful framework for designing and implementing game-based learning.
