Abstract

This panel takes a specific approach to democracy and democratisation, considering recent and critical forms of political actions and their influence in hybrid regimes. It assesses theoretical implications of the Arab Spring; the impact of normative ideas on democratic participation in Sub-Saharan Africa; the significance of innovative forms of democratisation in Egypt and Tunisia; a call for modification of African democracies; and the central role of civil society in the Russian democratic debate.
