85

Abstract

Neither modernisation nor globalisation have led to the disappearance of economic, political and cultural differences among various regions within states. The role of regions and its political representations even seems to grow in the context of the European Union. To what extent is political behaviour regionally or locally specific? Have regional differences tended to increase or decrease since 1989? What are the sources of political regionalism and to what extent does political regionalism influence national politics in respective countries?
