Democratic representation has remained one of the cornerstones in political science. Much research focused on the impact of institutions, such as on the electoral systems, where proportional systems are supposed to better link citizens’ vote preferences to parliamentary seats. However, vote-seats disparity is not the only factor affecting the extent to which voters are accurately represented in a political system. Another aspect is the extent to which voters are accurately represented in terms of policies and ideology (i.e. that the ideological position of citizens are in congruence with the positions of representatives, parties and government).
