Abstract

This panel explores the dilemmas of securing women's rights in different legal institutions using intersectional perspectives. In some cases, legal systems are recognising intersectionality for the first time, thus strengthening women's rights and the rights of other minority groups. In other instances, however, the recognition of "women's rights" in some legal systems has made it more difficult for some kinds of women to advance their particular intersectional justice claims. This panel will consider the problems and the possibilities of using legal institutions for supporting intersectionality and women's rights.
