This panel explores works of art thematizing peace as an artistic subject in its own right, decoupled (or seemingly decoupled) from representations of war and violence. While famous works of art such as Picasso’s Guernica represent violence in order to visualize aspirations for peace, art may also visualize peaceful encounters so as to visualize peace, the possibility of peace, and the longing for peace. This panel explores how art can achieve this without descending into triviality while at the same time being recognizable as art of peace.
