Abstract

The concept of populism has many forms and it is a topic of increasing importance in political science. The purpose of this panel is to debate and analyse several different cases of contemporary populist parties. Attention is paid to the core of populist appeals associated with each formation, and also to factors that play an influencing role here. The panel aims to answer the following questions: What is the essence of populism and criticism towards the established political parties? How do these parties act? And is there a possible development of populist parties and their profile? The influence of the government's position on the nature of populist appeal deserves special analysis. What has actually influenced the shift from opposition to government? What is the significance of the government's position on the party populism? The internal organization of populist parties and role of the leader is another important issue that it is necessary to research.
