Abstract

The workshop addresses current discussions concerning the concept of ‘legitimacy’ and ‘legitimation’ as applied to international courts, including the relationship between legality, social acceptance, normative justifiability, compliance and performance. Of particular concern is how we are to understand and assess the efforts by these courts to build their own legitimacy – in some or more of these senses.
