Abstract

The papers in this panel address various cultural attitudes and their causes and consequences. One paper examines how attitudes towards the quality of democracy among salient minority groups vary according to institutional arrangements, while another focus on how the proportion of linguistic and ethnic minorities in electoral districts influences vote share and candidate selection for specific parties. Other papers examine the attitudinal consequences of national identity, the political consequences of an economic and cultural value dimension and attitudes towards religious symbols and minarets.
