Abstract

This panel examines the changing dynamics of party politics in Southern Europe, and particularly the rise and effects of populism. The papers analyze the degree to which populism has diminished the importance of left-right ideology as a critical factor in voting in Spain, the impact of the populism on institutional politics in Italy and Greece, and new forms of populism across southern Europe.
