This panel gathers promising researchers from the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) covering topics from the sphere of IR mainly focusing on a European Union level. The panel tackles challenges the EU governance faces from a two side perspective. On one hand, the external side is touched upon through exploring the interplay between the EU and the UN Security Council with special emphasis on the efforts taken by the EU towards effective multilateralism on the world stage, efforts that can both increase its outreach and strengthen its position in the international arena. On the other hand, from an internal perspective, the problem of migration is at the top of the agenda of the state members of the EU, already creating rifts and disagreements between governments regarding managing the inflow of migrants and maintaining the security of the states and borders. Moreover, the topic of the euro crisis that has determined an “economic governance” will also be addressed in this panel. Furthermore, the panel welcomes a contribution tackling a specific case, relevant to today’s European security environment. The case of Romania as an important pillar for the European security, as well as for NATO will be analyzed. The panel aims at contributing with a cross cutting innovative research covering a wide range of subtopics from the sphere of international relations (security, migration, international organizations ) with special emphasis to the European Union, focusing both on internal and external challenges.
