There is an inseparable theoretical component to discussions of policy, justice and institutional design, despite a recent predominance of empirical perspectives on these and other matters in political science. This panel will bring together a diversified set of debates on issues such as the representation of marginalized groups, direct democracy, inequality and climate change, all of which have gained projection beyond academic circles. How to tackle theses issues with a focus on justice and legitimacy will be the subject of the papers in this panel.
