Abstract

The panel examines the mechanisms through which socializing agents (parents, peer groups) and dynamics of socializing contexts (the level of politicizations, cross-cutting networks, character of political regime etc.) induce norms and values facilitating political activism. It also examines socialization by participation, i.e. the potential consequences the experience with participation has on people's political attitudes and behavior. The panel includes both qualitative and quantitative approaches to the study of socialization and participation.
