The relationship between public opinion and political outcomes can be studied at the individual, group, or state level. Political knowledge and access to media are important factors to study at the individual level. Contrasting theories of racial and ethnic group identity and the impact of these factors on political behavior is another crucial part of the puzzle. In addition, current research finds significant variation among public opinion polarization and issue voting behavior across country cases. This panel will consider the important linkages among public opinion and political behavior at all three levels of analysis.
