Abstract

The Eurozone crisis has had a profound effect on civil society and interest groups. Formal and informal social networks, new and old, have emerged as key stakeholders in addressing social inequality, marginalisation and exclusion, yet are themselves undermined by reduced funding and membership. The aim of this panel is to explore how civil society in Southern Europe has transformed during the crisis and to assess the influence of social networks in response to a wide range of pressing challenges that the region is facing.
