In the political and social spheres, actors with vested interests are constantly engaged in framing conflicts about the correct or standard way to define an issue, each promoting a particular set of values and policy recommendations. At times of crisis in particular, persuasion becomes the key currency of crisis management and exploitation. This Panel focuses on the way in which the process of change plays out at the level of discourse. The panel critically explores the construction of political and media narratives in relation to economic, territorial and political challenges in Southern European countries, seeking also to analyse the impact of discursive representations on policy outcomes.
