This panel brings together a broad range of papers that interact with current debates concerning the determinants of individual attitudes in relation to the welfare state and redistribution. The papers pick up on different aspects that are at the forefront of recent research: immigrants’ welfare attitudes; the effect of personal wealth on redistributive preferences and party choice; income expectations and redistributive preferences; the effect of job loss on welfare preferences and party choice; and policy feedback effects on government support following from welfare cut backs.
