Abstract

Formal models (spatial, game-theoretic, decision-theoretic, agent-based, etc.) have become a widely accepted tool of scientific inquiry in politics. Possible substantive applications may include legislative organisation, decision-making in the European Union, party systems and voter behaviour, or international cooperation and conflict. This panel invites contributions involving formal models and offers a forum for applications as well as critical reflections on the use of formal models in political science. We welcome quantitative papers from diverse fields (such as international and comparative political economy, voting, international relations, institutional analysis, constitutional politics, etc.) that are exclusively theoretical as well as contributions that include empirical evaluations of formal theory.
