Abstract

The panel explores newer perspectives and shows recent findings of current national identity research. It assembles papers focusing on change in commemoration practices of nation-states, independence referenda, evaluation of patriotism, the role of historians for the national identity formation and national political extremism. The panel does not only reflect various facets of the national identity research but also attempts to integrate the findings into a more overarching perspective by focusing on discourses of national identity and boundary-making.
