Abstract

Analyzing concrete examples is a necessary step in order to achieve a comprehensive framework of the changes brought by globalization. This panel aims to bring together case studies that address specific effects of globalization at various levels, ranging from local to international stage. Multinational energy companies have significantly grown in the globalization process and developed projects in a variety of communities. One contribution aims to analyze the complex relations between local communities in Mexico and energy companies. Furthermore, free trade policies intertwining with nationalism are examined in the case of India. The next paper dwells upon the relation between globalization and foreign development aid, taking into account the interactions of the US, the EU and China with Africa. Finally, the interlink between technology, security and privacy in the sphere of globalization is highlighted by analyzing the US intelligence and counterterrorism efforts.
