Abstract

The historical study of taxation has received renewed interest not only among economic historians and sociologists both also among political scientists. Topics such as state-buildning, democratization, and political competition are frequently linked to taxation and its long-term development. This panel invites contributions broadly concerned with or related to taxation historically, and particularly papers dealing with the causes and consequences of the introduction of various types of taxes.
