This panel brings together cutting edge research on the gendered nature of campaigns, campaigning and electoral outcomes. Covering diverse topics such as social media, capacity training, gender quotas, location of women candidates and negative campaigning, it assesses how campaign methods are employed differently by men and women, and queries how gendered party dynamics can shape the outcome of elections. Drawing from country case-studies including Turkey, Australia, Great Britain, Switzerland and the USA, the panel addresses issues such as women candidates’ use of twitter in a patriarchal society; the differential effects of campaign resources and gender quotas on women’s electoral prospects; how seat marginality impacts women’s selection and election; the gendered differences of negative campaigning; and campaign effects on women’s electoral performance.
