Abstract

In spite of interpretations which view Kant’s political theory as trying to do away with political conflict and to relegate it to the private sphere, Kant regards conflict as real and significant – for instance, as a factor which leads to moral progress. Papers in this panel examine Kant’s account of political change by focusing on Kant’s related views on conflict, progress and hope, and by exploring their relevance for some important current issues, such as sustainability, peace and democratisation.
