This panel will explore current debates and issues in gender, peace-building and post-conflict institutional design. It will examine the relationship between governance institutions and public policies, and gender assessing the opportunities and challenges for those who seek to formulate and implement gender sensitive public policies. The papers will outline how the post-conflict context provides a unique set of challenges for those advocating for gender equality including but not limited to an understanding of conflict group identity as the dominant politically salient form of group identity. The authors will use a range of methodological approaches to interrogate these issues including both in-depth single case studies and large-n comparative analyses.
