Abstract

In liberal democracies, political parties are a connective tissue that links citizens and their governments as well as parliaments and executives. The panel examines different facets of parties, including the impact of internal democratization on candidate selection, how they respond to electoral defeat, the degree to which globalization shapes the positions that they take, and the extent to which they link institutions in supra-national polities like the European Union.
