This panel of Art and politics section (S08) is situated in the frame of discussion on critique, resistance and ethical witnessing in art. The problematic dichotomy of art as producing something completely new and art as merely reflecting reality sets the general perimeters of the question of form that this panel is mapping, both in aesthetics and politics. The papers in this panel often approach this question by methodical detour of historical distance and geographical dislocation, thus opening up new ways to think remembering and expression in art and politics, during times when war and destruction again loom on the horizon of contemporary experience.
