This panel, as part of the section “It’s About Time: Temporality and Complexity in Public Policy”, encompasses papers that deal with the question how time is involved in the conceptualisation of politics in general and democratic orders in particular. The papers in this panel engage in meta-theoretical (and normative) reflections on how time is to be seen as a constitutive facet of the political, and/or they critically discuss how time in general, and acceleration in particular, relate to democratic principles. Therefore, the panel not only contributes to outlining a “temporalized” political science, but also speaks to the notion of the “accelerated society” as one of the major diagnoses in contemporary social theory.
