Abstract

Coal-fired power plants represent the most carbon intensive form of power production. Hence, to fight climate change effectively, the phasing-out of coal power around the world represent an urgent priority. Nonetheless, investments in coal-fired power plants continue in many parts of the world. This panel discusses the political economy of coal in a number of countries, exploring how politics and power influence policy and investment decisions in the sector.
