This study offers an analysis of more than 7,000 private security companies (PSCs) registered in the Czech Republic, which nowadays have more employees than the Police of the Czech Republic. Specifically, building on the findings from foreign analysis of security privatization, it aims to answer the following question: Whether and how is the provision and perception of security affected by the fact that instead of being provided by the state, it is increasingly delivered by private profit-motivated companies? Based on the analysis of available data and information from structured interviews with the owners and/or senior managers of PSCs, the author of the study concludes that the operation of PSCs in Czech Republic affects not only the perception of safety as a public good, but also the context of the political decision-making on security.
