Abstract

Populist radical right (PRR) parties are commonly recognised as the most competent actors in the domain of nativist politics. This party family places selective emphasis on immigration or minority issues, generally garnering support on the basis of their exclusionary agenda. However, PRR parties are not single issue parties and strenuously endeavour to come across as credible actors in different policy areas. Especially since the outbreak of the EU crisis, PRR parties have called new attention to socio-economic issues. The paper particularly concentrates on how these issues are framed by PRR parties in post-communist countries; PRR parties’ discourses and strategies are then analysed by means of primary data (original interviews and expert surveys) and secondary sources. Whilst a common ‘social’ orientation in the ideology of these parties is ascertained, the paper also identifies a number of differences. Ultimately, it is suggested that the PRR may exert some influence on socio-economic issues.
