Abstract

Belgium is an interesting case when it comes to gender studies. While research on gender issues is flourishing, though mainly related to individual actors and their research agenda, it is near to absent in bachelor and master curricula. This goes for all disciplines, and also for political science. The Flemish scenery is currently changing, since the organization of an inter-university master in gender and diversity has been applied for. If approved, the programme will run from autumn 2014 onwards. It is a broad master, including two courses embedded in political science. In Francophone Belgium initiatives are more scattered. Starting from a quick overview of gender issues in Belgian political science curricula, this contribution reflects upon their limited presence and the challenges, both in terms of opportunities and threats, this presents.
