Homosexual people are highly discriminated in Armenia. They are perceived to be abnormal, deviant and as a threat to the nation and the state. Even though Armenia has ratified several international conventions which supposed to lead to positive changes, but the positive impact is not visible. In recent two years also some anti-LGBT groups have got active which aggravate LGBT stigmatization. This paper aims to reveal the nature and causes for stigmatization of homosexual people in Armenia. This issue will be discussed in the discourse of interactions between LGBT-supportive and anti-LGBT active groups. Literature and document reviews, as well as focus group methods were used during the research. The results show that stigmatization of homosexual people is primarily appear in as a consequence of fears which are forced by a lack of knowledge. Lack of public awareness on sexuality, as well as nationalistic and religious discourses make anti-LGBT activism successful.
