Abstract

Many Mexican primary sector workers immigrate –legally or illegally- to the United States looking for better wages and to send their families a bit more of money to fulfill their needs. There is a program between Mexico’s and United States’ governments for send people to work temporarily on the US with H-2A and H-2B visas. Nevertheless, when they arrive to the United States, the situation is not that easy: many times they are mistreated by their bosses, have awful working and living conditions and receive less money for their work than they should have to. Since 2012, ProDESC, a Mexico City-based NGO, has helped to organise a Coalition of Temporary Migrant Workers on the state of Sinaloa, in order to give the employees an opportunity to set better working conditions through negotiations with both Mexican and American governments. This paper aims to expose the results of ProDESC’s and Coalition’s job.
