Abstract

This paper uses Roderic Camp's "Mexican Elites Database" to examine the political recruitment of Mexican senators. The data set includes information on the education, elective positions, appointed positions, parents occupation and class status for all Mexican elites since 1935. The proposed paper will compare the career paths of male and female senators before and after the 2000 transition to democracy and implementation of gender quotas in order to analyze how the transition to more inclusive elections has changed the career paths of men and women.
