Political Executive Metrics: Can we Measure the Success of Canadian Prime Ministers?

Political Leadership

Abstract

In this paper I argue that there are a number of empirical variables we can use to understand the success of modern Canadian prime ministers. Using economic, social and political indices, modern Canadian prime ministers (Pierre Trudeau (1968) to Harper (2014)) can be compared to each other in empirical, rigourous fashion. Producing a framework for first minister comparative work can contribute to the way we evaluate the legacies of prime ministers and their governments.
