A hallmark of the modern age is the increasing diversification of social relationships, which has issued in a proliferation of symbolic forms of intercourse based on generalisations and "labels" that allow for condensed, direct definitions of traits, roles and behaviours that in day to day life people will perceive and use to treat people based on typification structures.
This phenomenon is also true for political parties that moreover define their identity in a opposite way as is the case between PDL and PD in Italy. Despite the polarisation of the electorate is relatively recent in Italy, many studies show the existence of stereotypes according to political affiliation. These grow up also by taking in account the social features: a higher presence of employees in the left, of self-employed in the right.
This is not only related differences in the social condition of the various social classes, but rather of different visions of politics, conceived in a more solidarity and ideals to the left, more concrete and individualistic to the right.
