The comment aims at discussing ‘cultural defence (Chapter 5)’ as a justification for restricting immigration in Kukathas’ book Immigration and Freedom. More specifically, it will focus on what are the advantages/disadvantages of introducing such a distinction, its implications but also how it could help in better understanding the issues linked to immigration. The argument will be that the Corporate Conception of value assignment can bear a normative bias, when overlooked, could lead to morally problematic exclusionist outcomes for immigrants as well as citizens.
