The research presented here about the actions of Catholic social organizations in Catalonia has allowed us to highlight the contribution made by these institutions in the society; it has also given us clues to identify challenges facing the sector and which aspects should be strengthened for a more efficient service. The research, based on a model of participatory action research, and has involved the participation of many Catholic social organizations representatives from around the Catalan country. All together have agreed the terms and limitations of the research and have analyzed descriptive and explanatory elements of the social contribution of these organisations. We have identified the elements that explain the variability in the contribution of social organizations and analyzed the perception that different stakeholders have about the reality of Catholic social organisations. The research has produced a catalogue of recommendations for the strengthening of the institutions and the social sector.
