Elite clubs. They exist in modern society but for what proposals and what functions do they implement? In criticism that was made of a class-domination theory by the group of theorists in the social sciences, the pluralists, was contest the idea that the upper class is too dissociate to be able to organize for power. Despite that opinion there are lots of studies included Baltzel’s and Domhoff’s work about elite clubs as the indicator of upper class cohesion. Furthermore there is a literature in social psychology, called small-group research which shoes that people who meet in relaxed settings, and see their group as exclusive, become even tighter with each other than people in ordinary groups. Even more, people in exclusive groups are more likely to listen to each other and come to a compromise if they have the task of figuring out what to do about some policy issue. But all that concerned to west society and west elite clubs. If we’ll take a look at Russian society we’ll see now quit a lot of such clubs, especially in big cities, In view of the foregoing, what are elite clubs in modern Russian society, do they act similar as in west society or not? We’ll try to give a review of west studies in the field of elite clubs and description of modern Russian elite clubs, their functions and social background of their membership.
