This is a study about how the economic crisis is falling into a crisis of democracy, and cuts of rights and freedoms. The economic crisis in Spain, where austerity policies are being implemented, are causing an increase of the social conflict and its expressions in the street. The answer given by the political institutions and security forces is limiting the fundamental rights of expression and movement, criminalizing dissent and opposition to the policies. It affects the discrediting of politics, because of the corruption cases that are affecting the main parties, the weak democratic culture, and some vestiges of Franco's judiciary and police institutions, are causing this leeway of rights and freedoms.
