Abstract

Ireland and Spain are suffering the consequences of the current financial and economic crisis. There are many similarities between the growth patterns of these two peripheral economies: membership of the euro, the expansion of financial activity, the lack of control of private indebtedness, the housing bubble, etc.. However, the impact of the crisis and the solutions given are different. This paper analyzes the differences between the economic policies in both countries and the consequences of the different assistance offered by European Union
