Abstract

Despite the efforts earch government in “drug related states” in Latin America, Latin American drug trafficking organizations are known for its influence over the government. This paper intends to examine the impact of drug cartels on the Mexican government. Mexico at the moment is in the notorious War on Drugs, and death toll is increasing everyday. The disputes are occurred between and among drug cartels, Death Squads and the government. The problem of the Mexican government is that law enforcement organizations and law makers do not function effectively because of the fear and corruption spread within the government organizations. This paper will focus on law enforcement organizations in Mexico, and investigate the cartel’s influence to prevent trials and disrupt legal order, and the fear created by intimidation referring to the changes made by the Carderon’s War on Drugs. Malfunctioning of the government institutions is stemmed from the financial power and fierce use of violence by the cartels. Although the government spending so much on War on Drugs, it seems almost impossible for the government to establish “clean” and independent law enforcement organizations at the moment because of the penetration by the cartels.
