Abstract

Political legitimacy crisis has led to a debate on representation, the role of elites, and their functioning. In the case of Spanish political elites, the entry of two new major parties into the institutions has contributed to the renewal of more than half of the parliamentarians in the Spanish Congress. The main goal of this chapter is to know the new social composition of the XIII legislature of the Congress of the Deputies, analyzing differences and similarities between the new parties, “Podemos”, “Ciudadanos” and "VOX", and the traditional ones. Once the new profile is described, the distance between political representatives and Spanish society is measured by applying the Social Bias Index.
