Abstract

The paper analyses the factors fueling party competition among Spanish right-wing voters. The rise of new parties, like Ciudadanos and Vox has threatened the longtime electoral hegemony of the PP. This transformation is linked to the increasing polarization held in the Spanish electorate since the financial recession and the conflict aroused from the Catalan movement of secession. The consequences of the PP electoral decline may transform the party system built in the 1980s, and open the floor to new political scenario.
