Abstract

In 1991, 1993, 1999, 2000 and 2009 in Italy, through abrogative referendums held in order to remove selected regulations, the electoral system of the Italian Parliament has been changed. Some of the alterations succeeded and some did not. Many requests for a referendum were rejected by the Constitutional Court. The aim of this article is to reflect on the effectiveness of the institution of the abrogative referendum regarding the change of the electoral system in Italy.
