Abstract

The article will examine the career of the popular president of the partially recognized state of the Republic of South Ossetia. In 2001. E. J. Kokoity won the presidential election, in 2006 he again managed to get ahead of his rivals. In 2012, he tried to become president again. Despite his repeated statements that he is not going to be nominated for a third term, a group of his supporters tried to impose on the Parliament the inclusion of this issue on the agenda, but did not succeed. On June 14, 2011 the Supreme Court of the Republic of South Ossetia, by its Resolution, confirmed the illegality of bringing the issue of the admissibility of the third term to the referendum. He became the most popular president of the Republic of South Ossetia, the main goal of his reign was the struggle for maximum integration with North Ossetia and the possible entry of the Republic into the Russian Federation. Paradoxically, the main result of the reign of E.J. Kokoity became the official recognition of the RSO as an independent state by the Russian Federation, and then Venezuela, Nauru, Nicaragua and Tuvalu.
