Abstract

The policy performance of the Commission Presidency strongly depends on good inter-institutional relations with the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers, and the European Council. The implementation of the President von der Leyen’s vision of "A Union of Equality" – as "equality for all and equality in all of its senses" – is no exception. Von der Leyen had to tackle a number of challenges given her contested nomination and election, despite not being ae Spitzenkandidat. The contribution analyses the inter-institutional relations with a gender lens. Providing a novel way of understanding the gendered nature of these inter-institutional relations, the contribution compares and contrasts both the institutional and individual levels of the EU’s institutional triangle.
