Round table discussant

Based on a theoretical perspective derived from political leadership studies, this contribution analyses von der Leyen’s leadership in times of crisis. Unprecedented crises have marked von der Leyen’s incumbency. Yet, despite – or perhaps because of – these challenging circumstances she has excelled in the position of Commission President. The contribution emphasizes the Commission President’s agenda-setting power and distinguishes between the institutional setting, the situational context, and the personal capacities of a leader.
