Abstract

Malliga Och is Associate Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Denison University. She is an expert on women’s leadership, focusing on the intersection between gender and ideology. Recent work has examined women leaders in adverse circumstances. Her work shows how extensive qualitative content analysis can detect women politicians’ advantages and disadvantages. Her most recent research project explores the pro-women bias during times of national crises. Findings so far show how women leaders can benefit from a pro-woman bias if they successfully create gender role congruency across their leadership style and rhetoric in their crisis management.
